Diarrheal syndrome in the practice of a general practitioner: medical algorithm

According to the frequency of seeking medical care, diarrhea is one most common complaints, being an important health problem. Acute diarrhea, as a rule, infectious in nature, thus, scope diagnostics aimed at assessing patient's condition and clarifying pathogen etiology. Chronic has diverse etiology, which poses difficult task for clinician conduct differential diagnosis. Therefore, guidelines on relevant problem suggest use algorithms step-by-step exclusion diseases accompanied by diarrhea: from causes more rare ones. First all, it necessary detail identify presence red flags, collect epidemiological, drug hereditary history, assess nutrition habits, dietary preferences patient their possible association with manifestation diarrhea. The general examination reveals signs dehydration malabsorption, well stigma underlying disease. Also, first stage, advisable minimum laboratory instrumental studies.
